Bring the French Taste Back

There are few of us who enjoy French gourmet food but also the simpler cuisine. When we visit France on our annual holiday we adore the easy lifestyle and above all the food served even in the simplest restaurants. It is a well-known fact that even the basic foods seem to taste better in France!

Towards the end of our holiday we visit the local hypermarche to pick up just a few items that we cannot purchase at home. Spices are great as the large supermarkets always have such a wide range, often spices that are hard to find at home, and they are easy to transport back. Then you have the specialist foods of the region. The Brittany crepes, the Provence lavender flavoured food and the exquisite goat's cheeses from all corners of France.

Then you get to the flavourings. Specially prepared salt, mustards in one hundred varieties and the French version of pesto. Do not forget the incredible selection of teas or the syrup which will brighten up any drink.

To top it all you have your inexpensive wines, despite the terrible exchange rate. If you can buy your wine 'en vrac' from a local producer you will be paying a quarter of the price at home and for a much better quality.

Stock up while you can as you will soon be back to beans on toast!
