Bring the French Taste Back

There are few of us who enjoy French gourmet food but also the simpler cuisine. When we visit France on our annual holiday we adore the easy lifestyle and above all the food served even in the simplest restaurants. It is a well-known fact that even the basic foods seem to taste better in France!

Towards the end of our holiday we visit the local hypermarche to pick up just a few items that we cannot purchase at home. Spices are great as the large supermarkets always have such a wide range, often spices that are hard to find at home, and they are easy to transport back. Then you have the specialist foods of the region. The Brittany crepes, the Provence lavender flavoured food and the exquisite goat's cheeses from all corners of France.

Then you get to the flavourings. Specially prepared salt, mustards in one hundred varieties and the French version of pesto. Do not forget the incredible selection of teas or the syrup which will brighten up any drink. (more...)

Immigration Limitations May Have an Impact on Your Chinese Takeaway

We all completely take it for granted that when we call our local Chinese takeaway, there are plenty of staff on hand to prepare the food and deliver it to us. But, following years of mounting pressure from the public, the newest coalition government have been forced to start applying strict limits on the number of non EU immigrants entering the UK.

This means that people that are traditionally brought in from places like China and even India to keep these culinary industries going are on the brink of a massive staffing shortage. In the future, such food outlets are going to be forced to approach places like job centre Glasgow in order to recruit their workforce.

Now, there are plenty of people who would believe that this is actually a very good thing - after all, we would be recruiting within the workforce that already exists in the country and not bringing in more and more people who are only swelling our population. (more...)

Consider a Visit to Scotland

Scotland is famous for many things, such as the amazing Highlands, the beautiful cities and its interesting foods such as Haggis. In fact, thinking of some of the foods, they do have some oddities like deep fried mars bars. It might be worth keeping a guide to braces handy if you try those!

Scotland is best visited during the summer months, although that is not to say that it should not be visited at all during the winter. In fact, the UK's premier ski resorts are located in Scotland.

The highlands of Scotland are stunningly beautiful year round, but should not be underestimated. Just because the mountains themselves are not high, does not mean that they are not without their dangers and hazards. If planning a trek or mountaineering expedition, remember to take plenty of food and be prepared for all eventualities. (more...)

China Christmas Imports to Scotland

Back in the days of trading groups out of Taiwan, imports from China took the circuitous route from "behind the Great Wall" into most of the Western World. China was a forbidden land, a land of secrets, threatening military, stories cloaked in mystery, and above all, billions of workers who could be put to any task at the blink of an eye.

Yet, out of this dark mystery came some of the absolutely most gorgeous home decor items that the Western world had ever seen. At first, the designs and decorations had a curiously Chinese influence. The Taiwanese tried hard to introduce the Western decoration aesthetic to the Chinese production line. It is well known that traditionally Western images like Santa Claus left Chinese factories and arrived in Scotland and other areas looking like a Chinese man in a red velvet suit. This is but one example of the early days of struggling to marry up Eastern-world production with Western-world consumerism.

Today, the vast majority of Christmas Gifts and Decorations come directly out of China. There's no escaping the raw production power both in terms of raw materials, as well as manpower of China. And, due to the comparatively lower standard of living in China for the average person, what is comparatively a much lower wage, is a boon to China. In other words, people who would have no income at all to speak of, people who've lived hand to mouth for generations, suddenly have the opportunity to earn a wage. Westerners commonly feel guilty about the low wage, but there's no reason to at all. Western consumerism has dramatically increased the standard of living across all of China. (more...)

Using Cream Chargers to Prepare Creamy Dishes

Dishes made from whipped cream are the first choice of most children; however, many moms have difficulty preparing the quality whipped cream that their children’s favorite dishes need. The fact is that every mom wants to make her children happy by preparing the dishes that they love the most. Since that many moms are working moms, they do not always have sufficient time to spend in the kitchen preparing whipped cream.

Cream chargers has now made it possible for working moms to serve their children’s favorite creamy dishes without actually spending much time in the kitchen. A cream charger is a cartridge or steel cylinder that is filled with nitrous oxide which is used in a whipped cream dispenser as a whipping agent. Cream chargers are healthy, they are genuine cream, they are inexpensive, they are always available and they come in many different flavors.

A cream charger cylinder is about 2.5 inches long and 0.7 inches wide and contains about 8g of nitrous oxide under pressure. The walls of the cylinder or cartridge are about 2mm thick so that it can withstand the pressure of the gas that it contains. Cream chargers come with a special opening device that punctures the thin metal steal at the end of the tube. Once a cream charger has been used it cannot be refilled but it can be recycled.
